EARLY
VOTING
IS
OPEN!
Go
to
Village
Hall
during
normal
business
hours.
|
We're off
and running.
Early voting
is underway,
and I
encourage
you all to
get in and
vote as
often as you
can! Be sure
to drag your
friends and
family in to
vote as
well.
There has
been some
action by a
few of the
candidates.
As you can
see by the 2
names in
blue on the
candidates
list to the
right, that
these are
links to
those
candidates
messages.
Also: The
"BAM" party
has sent out
a mailing to
registered
voters. I
know many
who read
here are not
registered,
or
registered
with their
street
address
which can't
be mailed to
in the
Village. So
I'm posting
here links
to the
English
Version
&
Spanish
Version
for your
voting
enlightenment.

Not much to
report about
the 2012
campaign
season here
in Columbus.
I wonder
what all the
Candidates
are thinking
with just 30
days to go
till
election
day?
You can tell
what K-Lee
of the
Pajama Party
is thinking
by reading
her most
recent blog
entry called
"The Election
Process: Popularity
Contest or Job
Interview???"
to read it.
You might
want to pour
a cup of
coffee
first, as
this article
is lengthy,
but an
interesting
perspective
on the Right
to Vote and
Voting
Rightly.
I must
confess, I
do know what
a few of the
candidates
are about to
do to kick
off their
campaign,
but alas,
telling you
now may
lessen their
efforts.
I will make
good on one
promise and
post what I
think should
be Jeane
Canfield's
campaign
slogan. I'll
remind the
readers that
Jeane is the
wife of
Trustee Bud
Canfield. He
is one of
the 3
sitting
"Trustees"
who sat idly
by
collecting
$500.00 per
month while
Mayor
Espinosa and
Trustee
Gutierrez
operated a
gun running
and drug
smuggling
operation
right under
his nose.
One is
forced to
conclude
that either
Mr. Canfield
knew what
was going
on, and kept
it under
wraps, or he
was
completely
lacking in
his duties
as a Trustee
and
financial
judiciary
for the
Village, to
the point of
being led
blindly
along
singin'-his-song-all-the-doo-dah-day-long.
Now he wants
his reward
to be two
$500.00
paychecks
per month,
by adding
his wife to
the gravy
train.
Okay, okay,
the
slogan......You
all remember
the old
Budweiser
commercials
featuring
the 3 frogs
on a log
right? Each
frog had a
simple line
to
annunciate:
"BUD" -
"WISE" -
"ER".
With
that in mind
here's the
only slogan
I think
Jeane should
be allowed
to use:

The
2012
Municipal
election
campaign has
started with
a whimper.
Besides
council
meetings now
being
attended by
candidates
who rarely,
if ever
attended
prior to
their
election
bids, the
only other
visible sign
of an
election is
incumbent
Arnoldo
Rubio's 2
"campaign"
signs. On
that note,
it's not
surprising
Rubio's
signs do not
boast a
campaign
slogan, I
mean what
could he
honestly
say? Here's
a few
suggestions
for him.
Re-elect Me
because:
-
I helped
lead
Columbus
to
financial
ruin.
-
I was
Mayor
Eddie
Espinosa's
lap dog,
and
voted
exactly
as he
told me
too.
-
I cant
understand
a single
word of
the
English
discussion
at
Council
Meetings,
so I
keep my
head
down
pretending
to read
the
English
language
Trustee
notes.
Then I
vote the
way the
other
Trustee's
vote
when
it's my
turn.
-
The only
item I
put on
the
agenda
in 4
years
was to
raise
the
Trustee's
stipend
from
$200 per
month to
$500 per
month.
-
I was
illegally
over
paid
$4,600
by my
sister
the
ex-treasurer
and
(reportedly)
one time
mistress
or
girlfriend
to the 3
heads of
the
arrested
gun and
drug
smuggling
ring
aka:
Mayor
Eddie
Espinosa,
Trustee
Blas
"Woody"
Gutierrez,
and
Police
Chief
Angelo
Vega.
-
I
threatened
to sue
the
Village
if I was
fined
for not
showing
up to
numerous
council
meetings.
Then I
voted to
remove
the
Village
ordinance
that
fined
the
Trustee's
for not
showing
up to
meetings.
The only
things more
insulting
than Rubio
running for
re-election
is, Roberto
Gutierrez
running for
re-election,
followed by
Trustee
Canfield's
wife running
for office.
(I'll list
my
suggestions
for their
campaign
signs next
time.)
One has to
wonder how
these three
"Trustee's"
could even
show their
faces in
public after
the March
10th, 2011
raid that
mucked up
most of the
Gutierrez
family
cartel (click
here to read
ColumBUST
for that
story),
that not
only left
the Village
hung out to
dry, but
exposed (at
minimum),
the
remaining
Gutierrez,
Arnoldo
Rubio and
Bud Canfield
as total
fools and
incompetents.
Instead of
resigning
immediately,
we now have
these 3 men
counting on
the Village
voters to be
bigger fools
than they
are.
I hope like
Hell they're
sorely
disappointed
come
election
day.
That's
all
for
now.
But
stay
tuned
for
the next
update.
Of
course,
those
on
my
email
list
will
be
the
first
to
know!

As signified
by the
"Three Ring
Circus"
tents above,
my
prediction
of a "cast
of
characters"
jumping at
the chance
to earn
$500.00 per
month for
doing
absolutely
nothing has
come true.
Including 2
of the
incumbents
(Rubio and
Gutierrez)
who nearly
destroyed
our village
but feel
they deserve
to stay on
the "Village
Teat".
Nonetheless,
there are a
few gems in
the bunch
who I
believe are
serious,
capable, and
will be
dedicated to
the task of
bringing
Columbus out
of the
ashes. The
only way to
assure we
get the
cream-of-the-crop
is to get
out the
vote. Like
no election
before, ALL
the citizens
of Columbus
need to get
involved by
simply
making sure
their
individual
friends and
family go to
the polls on
March 6th,
2012.
Why is this
so
important:
-
Because
with so
many
candidates
running,
the
votes
are
going to
be
thinned
down
considerably.
It's
entirely
possible
that
less
than 10
votes
will
separate
the
winners
from the
losers.
-
Cheating
and
trickery
is
common
in
Columbus
elections.
It must
be
expected
and
watched
for,
even
with a
large
contention
of the
old
machine
sitting
in
Federal
prison
awaiting
sentencing
for gun
running
and drug
smuggling.

Update
to
the
report
below:
I'm
hearing
about
some
backpedaling
regarding
my
sources
and
the
accuracy
of
this
comment.
For
now
I'll
hold
my
ground,
but
will
report
to
you
immediately
if
an
apology
and
retraction
is
due. |
Speaking
of
trickery,
I want
to
congratulate
the
running
mates of
Roberto
Gutierrez
and
Charles
Scanlon
(seen
together
in the
picture
to the
right),
for
successfully
pulling
off the
first
trick of
this
election.
By golly
goodness,
you
fooled
all the
candidates
on
Tuesday
by being
the
first
ones in
the
morning
to turn
in your
applications
(Gutierrez
for the
2 year
term and
Scanlon
for the
4 year
term.),
only to
late in
the
afternoon
(after
all but
2 other
candidates
filed),
you both
"coincidently"
changed
your
minds
and
switched
to the
opposite
terms.
BRAVO
"Team
Scampaign",
I have
to admit
your
plan
worked,
as I
know
several
candidates
had
chosen
their
term
based on
your
early
filing. |
As soon as I
find out
Voter
Registration
locations
around the
village I
will post
them here.
If you're a
citizen of
Columbus,
and not
registered
to vote, NOW
IS THE TIME.
Also,
another way
citizens can
get
involved, is
to make sure
your friends
and family
are
registered
to vote.
As you can
see in the
grey column
to the
right, I
have made
preparations
to allow
EVERY
CANDIDATE
space on
this web
site to post
their
individual
profile,
election
platform and
one
hyperlink.
If any
candidate
needs help
understanding
how to
submit their
information
for
publication,
PLEASE

Just
a
quick
note
tonight
to
give
you
the
UNOFFICIAL
tally
of
those
who
submitted
candidate
applications
today.
- I did the best I could to gather all the names and term each candidate is running for.
- A name or two may be missing from this early list.
- The official list will posted at Village Hall (and here soon after) on Thursday morning.
- At 5:01 pm Thursday night candidates will gather to draw ballot positions from a hat.
That's
all
for
now.
But
stay
tuned
because
I
will
have
a
lot
more
to
add
to
this
section
over
the
next
couple
of
days.
Of
course,
those
on
my
email
list
will
be
the
first
to

January 6th,
2012
Not in
recent
history have
the Trustee
Elections
been so
vital for
the future
health of
our beloved
Village of
Columbus. On
March 6th,
2012 (Just 4
days shy of
the first
anniversary
of the March
10th, 2011
raid and
arrest of
Columbus
gunrunning
and dope
smuggling
cartel
members to
include:
Mayor Eddie
Espinosa,
Trustee Blas
"Woody"
Gutierrez,
Eva
Gutierrez,
Gabby
Gutierrez,
Ricardo
Gutierrez,
Police Chief
Angelo Vega
and
others.),
the people
of Columbus
will once
again have
the choice
to turn out
the vote, or
sit idly by
sleeping at
the wheel,
while
letting a
few dozen
votes decide
what's best
for them.
Well, think
about this:
With 3
Trustee
seats up for
grabs and,
-
$500.00
per
month
stipend
(That's
$24,000
over 4
years!)
-
ZERO
accountability
rules.
(They
never
have to
work a
single
minute,
or
attend a
single
council
meeting!)
-
NO
recall
options
(There's
no way
to get
rid of
them!)
it's likely
we'll see a
cast of
characters
running for
these
offices,
including
the
re-election
efforts by 2
of the 3
incumbents
(Roberto
Gutierrez
and Arnoldo
Rubio), who
at minimum,
are
responsible
for
overseeing
the village
tailspin of
corruption
and
financial
ruin!
Columbus
needs a
heart
transplant,
and that
will require
a Board of
Trustee's
who are not
only
good-at-heart,
but also
willing and
eager to
work for the
betterment
of Columbus
and its
citizens,
instead of
their own
selfish and
corrupt
agendas. The
great
preacher, G.
Campbell
Morgan, said
it best:
"When a
man's
ambition is
to seek
great things
for himself,
what cares
he how many
suffer so
that he
succeeds.
But when a
man seeks
great
things, not
for himself,
but in the
interest of
the
community,
then his
ambition is
godly,
sacred,
pure, the
inspiration
of all that
is noble."
Will
some noble
people enter
the race?
Can the
Village come
together and
capitalize
on this
great
opportunity
to change
the
political
landscape of
Columbus for
the greater
good of ALL
ITS
CITIZENS?
We'll soon
see. In the
meantime,
stay tuned
here for the
blow-by-blow
election
coverage.
